Bob Wright. He is the Founder of Autism Speaks. First of all Autism Speaks is a foundation that thinks they are doing a kind thing but they are not. Curing Autism is like how Adolf Hitler tried to create an Aryan race as told by Luke Jackson in his book "Freaks Geeks And Aspergers Syndrome" It's a great book I highly recommend it. Luke Jackson is a Diagnosed Aspie. He wrote when he was only thirteen. in his book he seemed very smart for a thirteen-year-old boy. People with Aspergers are very intelligent and Knowledgeable.

But unfortunately the people at Autism Speaks do not know this. They think every Autistic is a
Psycho, Emotionless, unconscious human being.
Not all form of Autism are retardation .
I understand a foundation for people with severe cases of Autism but it's ridiculous to try and cure a person with Aspergers (Like me) people like I need early intervention, support from the community and funding. Not a cure.
I even think it is wrong to cure severely Autistics. severely Autistics need to be diagnosed early and have a lot of one-on-one help. Most likely 16 years later is an almost high functioning adult. I know a young adult man who had this intervention and now he can hold up to three part time jobs, he owns a business, has clear proper speech, Knows how to ride a bike in traffic, Can go to places on his own in the community and lives on his own with some support . All that without a support worker clinging on to him 24/7. His Autism is more severe than mine but he is far more responsible than me. He has a great life and is a treasured person in our small community. From an severely Autistic to a responsible young man. So look what he can do? You don't need to be cured to have a great life.
The cure is what the parents want. Not necessarily the child. The child is happy the way they are until they are told that " It's inappropriate to spin a pencil in front of your face and you won't make any friends if you act like this and do this and do that.."
Selfishly parents want a "Normal" child that can have a normal social life. Having your kid join the soft ball team, Sleep over parties and other youth gatherings make a parent very proud of their child.
I don't blame the parents. Autism Speaks planted that seed in their heads. That Autism and Aspergers is a horrible disease and that it must be cured. Bob Wright needs to take all that money and give it to a better cause. There are Children out their dying of Cancer and Aids and all what these ignorant irresponsible parents want is their child to be normal for their benefit because they are scared shit-less because their kid isn't going to be on the football team or spread their wings as a social butterfly. Parents want to be proud of their children.
Who says parents can't be proud of their Aspergian kid?
My parents are proud of me because I'm the the way I am and they would never wish for me to be cured of my unusual personality. Autism speaks is wrong and North American parents need to let go of their fist full of ideals and love their children the way they are.
